Windows Update is the main user of this feature. Users have not been able to use this Service to download other files because there was no user interface to do so. BITSAdmin, which ships with Vista and is available as a download for Windows XP is a command-line tool that lets you use BITS to download files from any location. This is a really useful feature - I don't want to be signed in automatically, but I don't want to enter my username all the time. So I select the "Remember me" option, but keep the "Remember my password" option unchecked.
